What is a Christian?
A person who has asked Jesus to be the Lord of their life and live for Him.

The word Christian is used three times in New Testament
Acts 11:26 So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch

Acts 26:28  Then Agrippa said to Paul, "Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian?" 26:29 Paul replied, "Short time or long   I pray God that not only you but all who are listening to me today may become what I am, except for these chains."

1 Peter 4:14 If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. 4:15 If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. 4:16 However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name. 4:17 For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? 4:18 And, "If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?" 4:19 So then, those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.

Followers of Jesus Christ were first called “Christians” in Antioch (Acts 11:26) as a nickname. It is based on
Christ: Which is  atitle of Jesus not his surname. It meantht echosen one promised by God. Can also mean Messiah, anionted one, Chosen one.

SOME KEY VERSES
Romans 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10:10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 10:11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 10:12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile ? the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 10:13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

Acts 2:37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"  Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 2:39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off ? for all whom the Lord our God will call."

SALVATION
Salvation is accomplished by the almighty power
of the triune God.
The Father chooses us,
The Son died for them,
The Holy Spirit makes Christ's death effective
By bringing the elect to faith and repentance
Thereby causing them to willingly obey the Gospel.

The entire process (election, redemption, regeneration)
is the work of God and is by grace alone. Thus God, not man, determines who will be the recipients of the gift of salvation.

Acts 17
GOD
Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you.
17:24 "The God who made the world and everything in it
is the Lord of heaven and earth
and does not live in temples built by hands.
17:25 And he is not served by human hands,
as if he needed anything,
because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else.

MAN
17:26 From one man he made every nation of men,
that they should inhabit the whole earth;
and he determined the times set for them
and the exact places where they should live.

17:27 God did this so that men would seek him
and perhaps reach out for him and find him,
though he is not far from each one of us.
17:28 ?For in him we live and move and have our being.'
As some of your own poets have said, ?We are his offspring.'
17:29 "Therefore since we are God's offspring,
we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone –
an image made by man's design and skill.

17:30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance,
but now he commands all people everywhere to repent.

JUDGEMENT
17:31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice

ANSWERS
1.  Where did I come from?
Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Romans 1:18 20 "From heaven God shows how angry he is with all the wicked and evil things that sinful people do to crush the truth. They know everything that can be known about God, because God has shown it all to them. God's eternal power and character cannot be seen. But from the beginning of creation, God has shown what these are like by all he has made. That's why those people don't have any excuse."

Hebrews 11:1, 3 "Faith makes us sure of what we hope for and gives us proof of what we cannot see. It was their faith that made our ancestors pleasing to God. Because of our faith, we know that the world was made at God's command. We also know that what can be seen was made out of what cannot be seen."

2.  Do we have value?
Genesis 1:26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

Isaiah 42:5 "This is what God the LORD says   he who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and all that comes out of it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it"

Psalm 8:4 6 "what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? 8:5 you made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honour. 8:6 you made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet"

Acts 17:25 because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else.

3. Why are we here?

Deut 6:4-9, Mark 12:28-3 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength'."

Mark 12:28-31 Leviticus 19:18 'You shall love your neighbour as yourself'."

Col 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 1:16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.

Ephesians 4:6 "one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all."

Westminster Shorter Catechism
Q. 1. What is the chief end of man? A. Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.

4. How are we to live?
Ephesians 2:8-10 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith   and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God   2:9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 2:10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

5 Why do things go wrong?
Jer.17:9 "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?"

Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

Romans 5:12 "Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned"

6. Where do we go?
Ephesians 4:22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 4:23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 4:24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Col. 3:10 "and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator."

7. What happens when you die?
Romans 2:4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance? 2:5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God's wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. 2:6 God "will give to each person according to what he has done." 2:7 To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honour and immortality, he will give eternal life. 2:8 But for those who are self seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.

2 Cor. 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

Hebrews 9:28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
